Influence of Depression on Adolescent Social and Moral Behaviour in Secondary School in Ado Local Government, Ekiti State

This project examines the influence of depression on adolescent social and moral behaviour in secondary school. Three research objectives and two research hypotheses were raised for this study. The population comprised, one hundred (100) students from Five secondary schools randomly selected out of all secondary schools in Ado-Ekiti local Government. A self-designed questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Test retest method was used to ensure the reliability of the instrument. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the reliability coefficient of 0.71. Data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics and were presented in tables. The result revealed that there is a significant between social behaviour on adolescent. In addition it was revealed that the social behaviour on adolescent was weak and negative. Based on the result, it was recommended that educators, Counsellors, Psychologists, and Researchers to develop strategies to reduce psychological problems like depression among students who experience depresion and to intervention programs to enhance students’ psychological well-being which may help to increase their academic performance. Professional psychologist and counselor should render psychological interventions using cognitive behavioral techniques to counsel secondary school students who are depressed so as to help improve their academic performance
