Abstract
This study examines the factors influencing students’ interest in learning chemistry, focusing on the roles of teacher knowledge, hands-on experiments, teacher motivation, and professional development. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to secondary school students. The findings revealed that knowledgeable teachers significantly enhance student motivation and concentration by effectively simplifying complex concepts and creating an engaging learning environment. Additionally, hands-on experiments were found to boost students’ interest by making abstract chemistry concepts tangible and relatable. The study also highlighted the positive impact of teacher motivation, with enthusiastic educators fostering a supportive and dynamic classroom culture that encourages student interest. Furthermore, professional development programs, such as training and workshops, were identified as critical for equipping teachers with innovative strategies to engage students. Based on these findings, the study recommends prioritizing teacher training, promoting experiential learning, and supporting teacher motivation to enhance the quality of chemistry education.
