Girl Child Molestation in Nigerian Universities a Review of Kunle Afolayan's Citation

Abstract
All through the passage of time, girl child have always been perceived as the weaker vessel, and so have been subjugated and oppressed by culture in most Atrican societies. The culture is defined by inequality and the subjugation of the female folk. Gender-based violence has assumed serious dimensions globally including Nigerian universities. This work discusses some of the immediate and remote causes. This research interrogates the dynamics, socio-psychological, institutional, socioeconomic and cultural factors accentuating cases of girl child molestation on both the victims and the perpetrators of this heinous criminal act. This work used mixed methods applying 200 copies of questionnaires to generate data and also employed theory of Gender and Power by Cornell to situate the structure and the phenomenon of rape that this work addresses. This work discovered that most of the respondents are student of Nigerian State Universities. It also discovered that the challenges of the girl child molestation in Nigerian institutions are mostly caused by the students indecent dressings and lecturers. Hence affects the peace and development of the Nigerian State institutions. It thereby recommendation that to reduce GBV to its barest minimum, periodical orientation should be embarked upon while provocative dressing by females should be frowned at.
