Abstract
ABSTRACT
The stem bark of Enantia chlorantha is commonly used for the treatment of malaria and other ailment such as cough and for wound healing. The plant represent a source of various phytochemicals. However, the efficacy and mechanism of action of the plant remains unclear. Therefore, in the present study, we determined the antioxidant activity of methanol extract of stem bark of Enantia chlorantha using DPPH radical scavenging activity, and ferric reducing property (FRAP), furthermore, the in vitro anti –inflammatory activity by Heat Induces Hemolysis was carried out. The methanol extract of Enantia chorantha antioxidant activity using DPPH assay showed % inhibition of 14.97% while the standard (vitamin C) had 96.91%, Ferric reducing antioxidant power assay of the extract equivalent to the standard (ferrous sulphate) had 7.788mmol and anti –inflammatory activity by heat induces hemolysis showed % inhibition of 66.28% while the standard (Aspirin) had 88.28% . These results further validate the claim and the use of Enantia chlorantha in traditional medicine for the treatment of stress related diseases such as malaria, cough and inflammation.
