Career Counseling as a Correlate of Economic Students’ Achievement in Adeyemi College of Education Ondo, Nigeria

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigated the role of career counseling as a correlate of economics students’ achievement in Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo. Specifically, the main purpose is to investigate the current state of career counseling available to students in Adeyemi College of Education; evaluate the level of awareness and utilization of career counseling services among economics in the institutions; and determine the impact of career counseling on academic achievement of economics students in the institutions. The research design that was used in this study is survey design, the population of the study comprises of all economics students in Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo. Total number of 120 students was drawn from the students’ population using a die roll simple random techniques. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics; simple percentage, mean, standard deviation and inferential statistics; correlation coefficient. The findings revealed that there is a positive relationship between career counseling and economics students’ achievement. The study recommend that government should allocate funding to various institutions specifically for career counseling, school management should collaborate with industry to foster strong relationships with industry professionals, employers, and alumni to develop internship programs, job placement opportunities, and industry-specific workshops to expose students to practical experience and student should be proactive in taking the initiative to seek out career counseling services early on in their academic journey.
