Abstract
Abstract This project investigates the role of radio as a tool for peacebuilding in post-conflict settings, with a focus on northern Nigeria, specifically Borno State, a region severely affected by Boko Haram conflict. The target population included residents from conflict-affected areas, local leader and media practitioners, who are the community stakeholders. A survey method was employed and a structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. The key findings reported increased awareness of peacebuilding initiatives after engaging with radio programs, and also indicated correlation between radio program participation and reduced inter-community tensions. The findings further revealed the challenges faced in accessing radio content, highlighting the disparities in reach across different demographics. The study concludes that radio plays a crucial role in promoting peace in Maiduguri and also affirms its effectiveness in fostering reconciliation. Hence, the study recommends that broadcast stations in Maiduguri should optimize their programme schedule by broadcasting peaceoriented programmes in the morning and afternoon to maximize audience engagement and also to increase outreach to under-represented groups.
