Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of budgetary controls on the profitability of listed business organizations in Nigeria. In the context of a complex and evolving organizational environment, effective budget management is essential for achieving short- and long-term objectives. The study employs a descriptive research design, utilizing structured questionnaires distributed to 100 staff and management members, with a 70% response rate. Key findings reveal a significant relationship between budgetary control and profitability, highlighting its role in planning, monitoring, and control within organizations. The analysis indicates that businesses with robust budgetary processes experience enhanced financial performance, with planning identified as the most critical factor, followed by monitoring and control. Furthermore, the study illustrates that many organizations conduct quarterly budget reviews, primarily within a medium-sized budget range of 1-5 million, facilitating strategic planning and operational oversight. Overall, the research underscores the importance of budgetary controls as a vital component in driving organizational success and profitability, suggesting that management should prioritize effective budgeting practices to enhance financial outcomes.
