Abstract
ABSTRACT This research work was carried to find the causes of examination malpractice and its effect on the students in higher institutions using Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi as a case study. A sample size of 100 students was selected using the simple random sampling method. Review of related literature was carried out where it was observed that examination malpractice had not helped to build the quality desired of students and based on the findings it was recommended that learning facilities should be put in place to enable students to attend classes regularly. Management should not rush the semester and lecturers should lecture students at least fifteen (15) weeks before the commencement of examination. Government should encourage learning by providing all the necessary facilities e.g. books in the library, equipment far laboratories and make academic environment conducive for learning.
