Abstract
This project is titled “Statistical Analysis on Selected Factors that Influence the Admission of Children into Orphanage Home 2014 – 2023. The aim of this study is to understand the trend patter present in the admission of orphans in Kaduna South Local Government. The statistical tools used are Spear’man Correlation analysis, Multiple Regression analysis and Variance inflation method consequently. From the correlation analysis carried out, the p-values (0.003,) of poverty is less than alpha value (0.05) we therefore reject H0 and conclude that there’s relationship between poverty and orphans admitted while for abandonment and family crisis p-values (0.904 & 0.582) are greater than alpha value (0.05) we therefore reject the accept the null hypothesis and conclude that, there’s no relationship between abandonment and orphans admitted and also there’s no relationship between family crisis and orphans admitted, while the ANOVA analysis shows that our p-value is (0.028) which is less than our alpha value (0.05) we therefore reject the null hypothesis and conclude that, at least one of the coefficients is statistically significant which signifies that the model is statistically significant, indicating that the model is fit for prediction. While the model is Orphans admitted = 7.894 + 0.959(Poverty) + 0.045(Abandonment) + 0.369(Family crisis). VIF values are (1.039, 1.369, 1.328) respectively which are less than 5, where therefore reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the independent variables (Poverty, Abandonment and Family crisis) are not collinear variables. This means that the variables are not strongly correlated with each other. Signifying that they provide unique and independent information in explaining the variation in the number of orphans admitted. Therefore I recommended that government should open more local and standard orphanages across the state in order to stem the tide of overcrowding and congestions in the present local orphanages within the study area.
