Microorganisms Associated With Spoilage of Sachet Tomatoes

Abstract
Microganisms associated with sachet tomatoes sold in Auchi was carried done.Thus the study was to isolate and identify microorganisms associated with the spoilage of tomatoes.Six different sachet tomatoes were collected from retail outlet within Auchi metropolis.The Bacteria count range from 5.8x13’5 and 2.9x10’3 while the fungi count ranges from 4.1x0’5 and 1.6x10’3 there was contamination by different types of microorganism such as lactobacillus spp.,Bacillus spp,Streptococcus spp,Clostridium spp,etc.Among the fungi,it was found that Aspergillus Niger and Rhizopus spp, Penicillium spp,mucor spp were found.Therefore,consumption of raw or partially cooked tomatoes in the from of sandwich or salad should be avoided since it could predipose the consumer to fungal or bacteria infections.Proper hygiene and storage condition should be practice.
