Abstract
ABSTRACT The increasing demand for energy-efficient and sustainable solutions in urban infrastructure has led to the exploration of renewable energy sources for traffic signal systems. This project focuses on the design and construction of a solar power module aimed at powering traffic lights using solar energy. The primary objective was to develop a self-sustaining system capable of reducing electricity consumption, lowering maintenance costs, and minimizing the environmental impact associated with traditional grid-powered traffic lights. This project involved selecting high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) panels, designing a robust energy storage system with batteries, and integrating energy management circuits, including charge controllers, to ensure reliable power supply. LED traffic lights were chosen for their low power consumption and durability. The system was rigorously tested for performance under various weather conditions and time-of-day scenarios, ensuring consistent functionality. Key achievements include successful integration of the solar power module with the traffic lights, demonstrated power autonomy, and a reduction in operational costs compared to conventional traffic light systems. Furthermore, the system was designed to be scalable for deployment in both urban and remote locations, where access to the electricity grid may be limited. The project highlights the potential for renewable energy in modern traffic management, offering a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional traffic light systems.
