The study adopts the use of descriptive research design. 60 teachers were selected from 12 secondary schools in Gusau using random sampling techniques Data for the study was collected through the use of likert scale (modified) questionnaire. Data collected were analysed statistically. Through the use of both descriptive statistics of frequencies, and percentages. Major findings drawn from the study among others revealed that Most teachers teaching social studies in Gusau are not improvising instructional materials, where instructional materials are not available, teachers teach without instructional materials; Large class size; financial constraints, lack of proper supervision, lack of seminars and workshop are some of the factors highlighted in the study responsible for non-improvisation of instructional materials. Hence, it was recommended that Teachers should be trained and re-trained through workshops, seminars and conferences for the purpose of skill acquisition necessary for the production and use of instructional materials by teachers. Teachers should be adequately motivated to improvise and use instructional materials. This can be done by improving condition of service for teachers and better remuneration vi
