Influence of Social Media on News Coverage by Broadcast Media in Nigeria (a Study of Rhythm 93.7 Fm)

Abstract
This study evaluates the influence of social media on news coverage by broadcast media in Nigeria: a study of Rhythm 93.7 FM, Port Harcourt. The study anchored on Agenda-Setting Theory and Uses and Gratifications Theory, these theories provides insights into the active role of media in influencing the masses in selecting and using media contents. A sample size of 61 was derived using the Taro Yameni formula. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire and data gathered was analyzed simple percentage. The findings of this study demonstrate that social media has revolutionized the speed and efficiency of news reporting and coverage, offering new tools for sourcing and verifying information. However, it also poses challenges related to misinformation and maintaining credibility It is therefore recommended that regular training programs should be organized for staff to improve skills in managing and utilizing social media platforms effectively.
