Teacher's Teaching Skills and Students' Academic Performance in Economics in Obot Akara Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

Abstract
ABSTRACT The main aim of this study was to investigate: Teacher's teaching skills and students academic performance in Economics in Obot Akara Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. To achieve the purpose of this study four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Literature review was carried out according to the variables of the study. Survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of 150 students was randomly selected for study. The selection was done through the stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Teacher's Teaching Skills Questionnaire (TTSQ) and an Economics Performance Test (EPT) were the main instruments used for data collection. Pearsons Product Moment Correlation Analysis was employed to test hypotheses in the study. Each hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed that, that teachers communication skills, teachers classroom management skills, teachers professional skills and teachers motivational skills, significantly relate with students academic performance in Economics. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that teachers should ensure they are always abreast of the trendy classroom management skills for effective teaching and learning in schools.
