Abstract
The study assessed Climate Smart Agricultural Practices (CSAPs) adopted by dry-season onion producers in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 65 respondents, and data were collected using structured questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were employed to analyze the data. The results revealed that (30%) of the respondents were within the age range of 47–53 years, with a mean age of 45 years, and all of them (100%) were male. The findings showed high levels of awareness (99%), trial (70%), and adoption (40-30%) of CSAPs among the farmers. The most commonly adopted practices included the use of organic manure, early/late planting, and crop rotation. Age, farming experience, and access to extension services were found to significantly influence their adoption of CSAPs. Challenges encountered by the farmers included limited access to finance, lack of technical knowledge/information, high input costs, and inadequate extension services. The study concludes that although awareness and adoption of CSAPs were high, several constraints limit their full potential. It is therefore recommended that policy interventions should focus on strengthening extension services, providing affordable inputs, and improving access to credit facilities to enhance the sustainability of climate-smart agriculture in the study area.
