Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of conservation agriculture (CA) practices on durum wheat (Triticum durum) production in Nigeria, a country facing increasing challenges due to rising demand and reliance on imports. Employing multiple regression analysis, the research examines key agronomic traits such as days to heading, days to maturity, plant height, tiller count, and grain yield per tiller to understand their relationships with yield outcomes. The findings highlight the nutritional significance of durum wheat in addressing food security concerns amid changing dietary preferences. The study emphasizes how conservation agriculture practices, including minimal soil disturbance, cover cropping, and crop rotation, can enhance soil health, improve moisture retention, and increase crop resilience against climate variability. Results indicate that conservation agricultural practices substantially boost durum wheat productivity, with positive correlations found between yield and several agronomic traits. The study provides practical recommendations for farmers to optimize production through sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, it identifies existing research gaps in the field, aiming to inform policymakers and agricultural stakeholders in Nigeria about effective strategies for enhancing durum wheat cultivation. By addressing these challenges, the study contributes valuable insights toward improving food security and economic stability in the region.
