Abstract
This study explores the effect of media ownership on the credibility of OSBC Radio, Osogbo, a state-owned broadcaster in Osun State, Nigeria. The research investigates how the ownership structure influences the station’s editorial independence, audience perceptions, and instances of bias or censorship. A sample of 150 respondents was surveyed using questionnaires, and the data was analyzed through frequency distributions and tables. The findings reveal that while OSBC Radio is viewed as credible in its coverage of local news and cultural events, listeners expressed concerns about bias, particularly in political reporting, where government ownership plays a significant role in shaping editorial decisions. Instances of perceived censorship and limited editorial independence were noted, particularly in relation to politically sensitive topics. The study concludes that the ownership structure of OSBC Radio directly affects its credibility, with state control leading to instances of bias and reduced trust among some listeners. However, the station remains a trusted source for non-political content. Recommendations include enhancing editorial independence, diversifying the range of perspectives, increasing transparency in funding, and investing in journalism training to improve the overall quality of content. These measures are suggested to restore public trust and enhance the credibility of OSBC Radio
