Abstract
Abstract Tomato seeds treatment under fresh, wash airdry, unwashed airdry, wash sundry and unwashed sundry methods were examined for emergence percentage and speed of emergence; plant height; stem girth and total leave count. Under these conditions the seeds were preserved for seven days after which seeds from each group were planted in polythene bags, with each group replicated three times. The seeds from each treatments were planted in separate polythene bags. containing sterilized top soil. The highest emergence percentage was recorded in the fresh tomatoe seeds, while the speed of emergence was highest in the washed and air-dried seeds. At 28 days after sowing, plants produced by unwashed sundried seeds had the tallest plants, thicken stem girth, as highest number of leaves.This demonstrated that unwashed sundrying was the most preferred method of presowing treatment of tomato seeds.
