Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the perceived socio-economic effects of insecurity among education students at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The research investigates how insecurity impact students’ academic performance, emotional well-being, and socio-economic stability A mixed-method research design was adopted, utilizing structured questionnaires and focus group discussions to gather data from a stratified random sample of 367 students in the faculty. The findings reveal that insecurity disrupts academic activities through prolonged school closures, restricted movements, and the displacement of students. Financial challenges were also prevalent, with increased transportation costs and economic hardships reported by students and their families. Emotional and psychological distress, including anxiety and fear, was evident, particularly among female students, who expressed heightened vulnerability to insecurity-related threats. The study recommends collaborative efforts between government agencies, educational institutions, and community leaders to enhance security measures, provide psychosocial support for affected students, and implement policies aimed at mitigating the socio-economic consequences of insecurity.
