Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research work examines and compares the physicochemical properties and some chemical constituents of some selected energy drinks. Three brands of energy drinks sample consisting of liquid and powdered forms were purchased. All samples were analyzed for their physicochemical properties, (pH), trace and heavy metals, sugar, caffeine and taurine contents.
Physicochemical properties analyzed.sodium, cadmium,Iron, calcium, zinc and potassium were found in all the three energy drinks.
Caffiene and taurine concentrations in all the energy drink samples were below the set standard of 400mg/L and 300mg/L, respectively.
It is important that the pattern of consumption of these drinks must be monitored to minimize ingestion of excessive doses of harmful substances to prevent the reported adverse effect.
