Foreign Direct Investment and Nigerian Economic Growth

Abstract
The study examine foreign direct investment and Nigerian economic growth. This study
adopted the ex-post facto research design. The study covered a period of ten years from
2011 to 2020. The purposive sampling techniques was adopted. Data obtained from
secondary sources were analyzed using E-View Computer Software. The study used
regression analysis to investigate the impact of independent variables on dependent
variable. The finding revealed that; there is a significant relationship between foreign
direct investment and Nigeria economic growth; Inflation rate significantly affect
foreign direct investment in Nigeria; Foreign direct investment does not significantly
affect government revenue generation in Nigeria. In line with the findings of this
research work, the study recommended that; Government should improve the
investment climate for existing domestic and foreign investors through infrastructure
development; the availability of power especially would go a long way because it would
reduce the cost on alternative power supply and reduce capital flight; The study also
recommends provision of services and changes in the regulatory framework relaxing
laws on profit repatriation which will encourage investors to increase their investments
and also attract new investors; Lastly, government and policy makers should focus on
developing suitable and enabling policies towards attracting FDI into Nigeria.
