Abstract
Ecotourism has emerged as a sustainable development strategy for communities with rich natural and cultural heritage. This research focuses on planning for ecotourism development in Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study examines the ecotourism potentials, existing environmental resources, and level of community participation in tourism-related activities. Relevant data were collected through field observations, interviews, and secondary sources. Findings reveal significant natural attractions such as forests, hills, rivers, wildlife presence, and cultural sites capable of supporting ecotourism growth. However, inadequate infrastructure, insecurity, poor policy implementation, and environmental degradation pose challenges. The study recommends strategic investment in infrastructure, capacity building, environmental conservation, and strong stakeholder collaboration to enhance ecotourism development in Chikun. Sustainable planning is necessary to promote local economic growth, create employment, and preserve natural resources for future generations.
