Leadership Styles and Employee's Performance in Agip Oil Port-Harcourt, River State Nigeria

Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the influence of leadership styles—specifically transformational, transactional, and democratic—on employee performance in Agip Oil Company, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The research evaluates two key performance indicators: employee productivity and commitment. Utilizing a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 179 staff members via structured questionnaires. The analysis revealed that both transformational and transactional leadership styles have significant positive effects on employee productivity and commitment. However, democratic leadership style did not show a statistically significant influence on either performance metric. The findings suggest that while participative leadership may foster inclusivity, clear goal orientation and motivational strategies are more effective in enhancing employee outcomes in this context. The study underscores the importance of adopting context-specific leadership strategies in performance-driven sectors like oil and gas.
