Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the effect of hands-on learning on the academic performance of junior secondary school students in Basic Science in Ekiti State. Hands-on learning, an interactive teaching approach that engages students through practical experiences, is considered an effective method for improving understanding and retention of scientific concepts.
The study employs a quasi-experimental research design, involving selected junior secondary schools in Ekiti State. Data is collected through pre-tests and post-tests to assess students’ performance before and after exposure to hands-on learning activities.
The findings reveal that students who engage in hands-on learning demonstrate significantly higher academic achievement compared to those taught using conventional lecture methods. The study concludes that hands-on learning enhances students' comprehension, engagement, and interest in Basic Science, recommending its integration into the curriculum to improve science education in secondary schools.
