Abstract
The microbiological assessment of indoor and outdoor air is crucial for understanding air quality and its impact on human health. This study aims to evaluate the presence and concentration of airborne microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, in various indoor and outdoor environments. Samples were collected from the indoor and outdoor environment of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus using air sampling devices. The collected samples were cultured and analyzed using standard microbiological techniques to identify and quantify microbial colonies. Results indicated a significant variation in microbial loads between indoor and outdoor air, with indoor environments generally exhibiting higher concentrations of bacteria and fungi. Factors such as ventilation, occupancy, and outdoor air quality were found to influence indoor air microbiology. The study highlights the importance of regular monitoring and the
implementation of effective air quality management strategies to minimize potential health risks associated with microbial exposure. Further research is recommended to explore the seasonal variations and specific sources of indoor air microorganisms.
