Effects of Political Instability on Secondary Schools Students’ Academic Performance in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State

Abstract
The research work examine effects of political instability on ondo west secondary schools students’ academic performance, political instability as discussed in this study is a condition characterized by a high level of uncertainty, vulnerability, and unrest within a political system or a country. It indicates lack of stability and predictability in the government, which can manifest in various forms such as frequent changes in leadership, social unrest, political violence, and a general atmosphere of insecurity. As part of possible suggestions of individuals, four research questions were raised and one hundred (100) questionnaires were administered in five selected secondary schools in Ondo West Local Government which were randomly selected out of all the secondary schools in the area of study. The findings of this study revealed that political instability has been a lingering and a reoccurring issue in Nigerian and in her educational sector, caused by different chronic problems such as revolution and conflicts, unequal distribution of the country’s resources, lack of transparency, corruption, and abuse of power and also difference in political ideologies. The study also revealed that political instability has statistical implications on students’ academic performance. This study also made some recommendations that the educational institutions should assist economically disadvantaged students through grants and scholarships also that the education boards, government and non-governmental agencies collaborate with educational institutions on the well-being of students, also educational institutions should organize events and activities that encourage civic participation to instill sense of responsibility which improve the academic performance of the students and that there should be promotion of political inclusivity through encouraging the participation of diverse groups in the political process to reduce marginalization and promote stability.
