Abstract
The Study investigate the mitigating potential of Adansonia digitata L. extract against lead induced hepatotoxicity in adult Wistar rats. Sixteen adult Wistar rats were divided into four groups: control, lead exposed, baobab exposed and lead and baobab exposed. Lead induced hepatotoxicity were assessed using relative organ weight ratio study, which showed not alteration in all groups. Liver enzyme parameters (liver function test) was measured using the serum extracted from the Adult Wistar rats, with lead exposure significantly decreasing in ALP level and increase in Total Protein and Albumin levels. Histological studies of the liver photomicrographs revealed distortions in the cyto-architecture of the liver tissue in lead exposed rats, including distortion of hepatic cord, sinusoidal dilatation, areas with poorly defined hepatocyte boundaries, less prominent nuclei appearance in the liver cells, and reduced cytoplasmic clarity. These findings suggest that Adansonia digitata L. has mitigating potential against lead induced hepatotoxicity in adult Wistar rats. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanism and mitigating potential of this extract in ameliorating heavy-metal toxicity in the liver.
