Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study examined the perceived variables influencing the teaching of
Physical Education in Private Secondary Schools in Calabar South Local
Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Three research questions
and corresponding null hypotheses directed the study, and was tested at 0.5
level of significant with a relative degree of freedom. Literature was
reviewed accordingly to the variables under study. The Survey research
design was adopted for the study and sample of 200 students were randomly
selected from five schools for the study in the study area. Simple random
sampling technique was employ to drawn the sample of the study. Four point
modified likert scale type of questionnaire was the instrument used for data
collection, the instrument was validated starting from my supervisor, then by
experts. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis was used in the
analysis. The findings showed that inadequate qualified personnel, learner’s
interest and lack of facilities/equipment significantly relates to the teaching
and learning of Physical Education. Based on the these findings it was
recommended among others that the administrators should make
facilities/equipment available to teachers to enable them carry out their job
effectively. Also, conclusion was drawn and suggestions for further research
were also made.
