Abstract
Stress has increasingly become a major challenge affecting the academic performance of students in tertiary institutions. This study investigates the effect of stress on the academic performance of Office Technology and Management (OTM) students in the College of Business and Management Studies (CBMS), Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected from 120 purposively selected students through structured questionnaires. The findings revealed that excessive workload, financial constraints, inadequate instructional materials, and pressure from examinations are the major stressors affecting OTM students. The study further shows that stress negatively impacts concentration, attendance, academic grades, and students’ motivation to learn. Based on the findings, recommendations were made on how stress can be reduced to enhance students’ academic performance.
