Abstract
This study examines the availability and utilization of audiovisual materials for teaching and learning of Biology in senior secondary schools within Gwagwalada Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The study aims to identify the types of audiovisual materials available, determine the extent to which Biology teachers use them, and assess the impact of such materials on students’ understanding of biological concepts. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected from selected Biology teachers and students using structured questionnaires. Findings revealed that while some audiovisual materials such as charts, models, and videos are available, they are not adequately utilized due to factors like insufficient supply, lack of technical knowledge, and poor maintenance. The study concludes that effective use of audiovisual materials enhances students’ learning outcomes and recommends that schools and education authorities should provide more instructional materials, train teachers on their use, and ensure proper maintenance of available resources to promote effective Biology teaching and learning.
