Perceived Difficult Biological Concepts Among Senior Secondary School Students in Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the perceived difficult biological concepts among senior secondary
school students in Sokoto North, Sokoto State, Nigeria. The study was guided by five (5)
research questions. The study employed a quantitative approach, using a structured
questionnaire as the instrument for data collection. A total population of 508 students
participated in the study, comprising the senior secondary students from both public and
private schools. The findings revealed that genetics, evolution, and nutrient cycle are the
most difficult biological concepts perceived by the students. The study also identified poor
teaching methods, lack of learning materials, and inadequate practical sessions as major
factors contributing to the difficult biological concepts. Furthermore, it showed the
differences in perceived difficulties between female and male students in both public and
private schools. Based on the findings, the study recommend that teachers should employ
effective teaching methods, provide adequate learning materials and Improve the teaching
and learning of biological concepts
