Abstract
This study investigates the impact of peer pressure on the academic performance of secondary school students in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews, data was collected from a sample of secondary school students. The findings suggest that peer pressure significantly influences students' academic performance, with both positive and negative effects observed. Factors such as conformity to peers' study habits, involvement in deviant behaviors, and social comparison were identified as key contributors to this phenomenon. Furthermore, the study explores potential intervention strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of peer pressure on academic achievement, emphasizing the importance of fostering a supportive and conducive learning environment within schools.
