Bactericidal Effect of the Mixture of Zingiber Officinale and Xylopia Athiopica Extract Against Salmonella Enterica Serovar Typhi

Abstract
The global cases ofsalmonellainfectionindevelopingcountriesmeanlyinNigeriahas severely major endemci disease despite t h e advancement i n health a n d medical professionals within theergoins. Thisstudywas undteoratasskesnsthebactericidaleffect of the mixture of zingiber officinale a n d xylopia aethiopica extracts against Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. The phytochemical constituents of the plant extract was determined quantitatively usingspectrophotometricandgravimetricmethods.Theactivity of hte extract was dmeretneid byculturingthetestisolatesandexposingthemtodifferent concentrations of the palnt extracts.Thenthesusceptibilityofthecuredisolateswascarried out using disk diffusion technique. Thestudyrevealedthepresenceofcardiacglycosides,
steroids, alkaloids, antn,si flavonoids,phenolicsandsaponinsintheextractof curcuma longa whereas alkaloids and flavonoids were seen most. The mixotfuzreingiber officinale and xylopia aehtoipcia extracts was able to reduce the number of resistant
Salmonellaot zeroro insignifilcevaenl,tthereforecouldbeusedinthemanagementofthis bacterial infection.
