Abstract
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to ascertain the effects increase in the cost of living on student‘s academic performance using Auchi Polytechnic Auchi as a case study. The researcher discovered from observations that students are most likely to do well when they have access to their basic needs and in order for students to increase their academic performance, their comfort must be assured. The attempt of this study therefore is to improve the general standard of living in the country since it has been discovered that good standard of living aids good performance. The study was a survey design, which sought the opinion of the study participant. Responses from questionnaire received from respondents were used in collecting data and these data were analyzed through the simple percentage method. Data were obtained from the primary and secondary source, which includes questionnaires, textbooks, magazines and internet. In the course of this study the following were identified: the real definition of poor standard of living, state of living in Nigeria, causes of poor standard of living and effects of poor standard of living on the student’s academic performance. Lastly, solutions, conclusions and recommendations were drawn based on the findings to show that good standard of living of a country can enhance the performance of the students.
