Abstract
Diabetes mellitus, a chronic condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, necessitates the exploration of novel therapeutic agents. This study aimed to investigate the phytochemical composition and antidiabetic efficacy of ethyl acetate banana blossom extract in experimentally induced diabetic rats. The rats were divided into three groups and received either normal saline, metformin, or extract via oral administration for 14 days. Blood glucose levels and body weight were monitored at regular intervals. The findings revealed that the extract significantly mitigated blood glucose levels and enhanced body weight in diabetic rats. Phytochemical analysis detected the presence of flavonoids, phenolic acids, and saponins, which may contribute to the extract's antidiabetic properties. Notably, the extract exhibited a more pronounced antidiabetic effect compared to metformin. While the exact mechanisms underlying this effect remain unclear, they may involve insulin secretion stimulation, insulin sensitivity improvement, and glucose absorption reduction.
