Phytochemial Analysis on Borassus Aethiopum Fruit Pulp

Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study investigated the phytochemical composition of Borassus aethiopum fruit pulp using n-hexane (non-polar), acetone (medium-polar), and water (polar) as extraction solvents. Phytochemical screening revealed that acetone and water extracts contained significant amounts of phenols, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, glycosides, and cardiac glycosides, while the n-hexane extract primarily contained terpenoids and cardiac glycosides, with no detectable steroids or alkanols in any extract. The water extract exhibited the highest abundance of bioactive compounds, particularly phenols and saponins, suggesting its potential as a rich source of antioxidants and therapeutic agents. Comparison with previous studies confirmed similarities in phytochemical composition with other Borassus species, supporting the medicinal and nutritional significance of Borassus aethiopum fruit pulp. The results indicate its potential applications in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmetic industries, warranting further research into its bioactivity, safety, and functional benefits.
