Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examines the relationship between study habits and English language academic performance among secondary school students in Fagge LGA, Kano State, Nigeria. The objectives were to investigate the impact of study environment, active learning, and study strategy on students' English performance. Employing an ex-post facto research design, data were collected via a questionnaire from a sample of 347 students, with analysis conducted using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC). Findings revealed a significant positive correlation between study environment (r = 0.512, p < 0.05), active learning (r = 0.581, p < 0.05), study strategy (r = 0.601, p < 0.05), and English language academic performance. The study concludes that study habits significantly influence English academic outcomes, with effective study environment, active learning, and study strategy enhancing student achievement. Recommendations include promoting conducive study environments, encouraging active learning, and teaching effective study strategies to improve English language academic performance among secondary school students.
