Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effects of the aqueous leaves extract of Ocimum gratissimum on the liver function parameters of albino rats. This research determined the impact of Ocimum gratissimum leaves extract on Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) and Alanine Transaminase (ALT) levels in albino rats. Twenty albino rats were grouped into four groups, each receiving different concentrations of the aqueous leaves extract of Ocimum gratissimum except group 1 (which served as control). Group 1 received only feed and water. Group 2, 3 and 4 received 100, 200, 300 mg/kg body weight of aqueous leaves extract of Ocimum gratissimum respectively. The administration of the extract was done orally for fourteen days. The animals were sacrificed by cervical dislocation and the blood was collected by cardiac puncture after the termination of the treatment. The samples were kept for further analysis.
