Abstract
Abstract
This study investigates the role of traditional government in managing farmers-herders conflicts in Ikere and Ise Local Government Areas of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The research employed a descriptive survey design and involved 100 respondents comprising farmers, herders, traditional leaders, and local government officials. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that traditional rulers play vital roles in mediating disputes, implementing local peace mechanisms, and collaborating with government agencies. However, their efforts are limited by inadequate resources, weak legal backing, and insufficient government support. The study concludes that traditional authorities remain essential in grassroots peacebuilding. It recommends strengthening collaboration between traditional and formal institutions to enhance effective conflict management and promote sustainable coexistence between farmers and herders.
