Proximate Analysis and Elementary Composition of Different Species of Millet.

Abstract
This study investigates the proximate composition and elemental constituents of different species of millet commonly cultivated and consumed in Nigeria. The research aims to evaluate the nutritional variations among millet species, focusing on parameters such as moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, ash, and carbohydrate contents, as well as essential mineral elements including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Standard analytical methods were used for the proximate and mineral analysis. Results revealed notable differences in nutrient composition among the millet species, indicating that environmental factors, genetic diversity, and soil conditions significantly influence their nutritional quality. The findings highlight millet’s potential as a nutrient-dense cereal suitable for improving food security, dietary diversification, and sustainable agriculture in developing countries.
