Impact of English Reading Textbooks on Student's Performance Among Ss2 Student of Ggss Kawo Kaduna

Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study investigates the impact of English reading textbooks on the performance of SS IIstudents at Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Kawo, Kaduna. The study employsboth quantitative and qualitative methods, utilizing questionnaires, focus groups, andclassroom observations to gather data. The findings reveal that regular use of Englishreading textbooks positively influences reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition, though the textbooks were found to be less effective for exam preparation. The studyconcludes with recommendations for curriculum developers, educators, and policymakers toimprove the effectiveness of English reading textbooks through culturally relevant content andsupplementary exam-focused resources. The results of this study contribute valuable insightsfor enhancing English language instruction in Nigerian secondary schools.
