Effects of Bisphenol-a and Selenium on Luteinizing Hormone in Male Wistar Rats

Abstract
Bisphenol- A (BPA) acts as an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) by interfering with the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Selenium possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help to regulate immune cell functions. Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a glycoprotein hormone that is co-secreted along with follicle-stimulating hormone by the gonadotrophin cells in the adenohypophysis. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of Bisphenol-A and selenium on luetinizing hormone (LH) in adult male wistar rats. A total of twenty (20) adult male Wistar rats weighing between 180g and 200g were purchased. After acclimatization period, the rats were allocated into 4 groups of five rats each designated as groups A, B, C, D.
