Abstract
Tramadol is an opioid drug used for pain relief. Vitamin D3 also called cholecalciferol is a fat-soluble vitamin that helps in absorption of calcium. This study investigated the effects of vitamin D3 on oxidative status and histoarchitecture of pituitary gland in male Wistar rats following exposure to tramadol. Fifteen (15) male Wistar rats weighing about 110g were divided into 3 groups of 5 rats each. Group A received only feed and distilled water. Group B received 20 mg/kg of Tramadol and Group C received 20 mg/kg of tramadol and 25 mcg/kg of Vitamin D3. Administration was through an oral route and lasted for 28 days. Animals were euthanized 24 hours after the last administration by cervical dislocation. Pituitary gland was collected for analysis and the results were analyzed by SPSS version 25. Results showed significant increase in the animal body weight in all groups (p
