Abstract
ABSTRACT
Lead is a heavy metal found naturally and released by human activities, poses grave health risks, especially for children. It can harm multiple organs, including the kidneys. This study investigates the renal effects of lead and compares the potentials of selected plant extracts and EDTA to mitigate them using 42 albino rats. The normal control (A) group received feed and water only, while lead control (B) group received 50 mg/kg of lead. The treatment groups received lead and 15mg/kg of EDTA (group C), 300mg/g of ginger and garlic (spice) (Group D), turmeric (E), watermelon (F) and citrus (group G) respectively. The study administered treatments orally for 42 days after which the animals were fasted overnight (8 h) and sacrificed and collected blood into Heparin bottles for analysis. Results showed significant(P
