Abstract

ABSTRACT The study investigated the phytochemical composition, antimicrobial properties, and antioxidant activities of Vernonia amygdalina (bitter leaf). Phytochemical screening revealed bioactive compounds like alkaloids, flavonoids, and phenolics, contributing to its medicinal efficacy. Bitter leaf extracts showed significant inhibitory effects against bacterial pathogens, highlighting its potential as a natural antimicrobial agent. Antioxidant activities were also evaluated, demonstrating its ability to neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress. The results suggest promising applications in pharmaceutical development, supporting its continued use in natural medicine and encouraging further research into its pharmacological benefits. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the therapeutic potential of bitter leaf.
