Abstract
The black plum (Syzygium cumini) is recognized for its traditional medicinal uses, attributed to its rich phytochemical composition and antioxidant properties. This study aimed to examine the phytochemical profile and antioxidant activity of black plum stem through qualitative and quantitative analyses. The stem extract was screened for alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, phenolics, glycosides, and terpenoids using standard chemical tests. Quantitative assessment revealed substantial levels of total phenolics, flavonoids, and tannins. Antioxidant potential was evaluated using DPPH, demonstrating significant scavenging activity and reducing power. These findings reveal the potential of black plum stem as a natural source of antioxidants with implications for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical development.
