Abstract

The effect of aqueous extract of Phyllantus amarus on paracetamol induced liver damage in wister albino rats in-vitro was investigated. The liver function markers; Alanine transaminase (ALP), Aspartate transaminase (ALT), Alakaline phosphate (ALP), Albumin, Total protein, Total bilirubin and Glucose were measured and the results show that after the adminstration of paracetamol, the concentration of ALP, ALT, AST, Albumin, Total Protein, Total Bilirubin, Glucose in the serum increased as a result of the damaged liver but on administration of varying concentration of the extract over a period of seven days, there was a significant reduction in the concentrations. The result proves that the leaves of Phyllantus amarus have hepatoprotective effect on paracetamol induced liver damage
