Abstract
This study investigated dried orange peels as a low-cost, sustainable feed alternative for male Sokoto Red goats, addressing the high cost and scarcity of conventional feeds like maize and soybean. Fifteen goats were divided into five groups fed varying levels of dried orange peels (0–15%). Results showed that 10–12.5% inclusion maintained normal blood values and overall health, while 15% caused abnormal red blood cell indices, suggesting potential risks. The study concludes that up to 12.5% dried orange peel in goat diets is safe and beneficial, improving feed affordability, promoting sustainability, and reducing environmental waste. It also recommends farmer training and regular blood monitoring for safe application.
