Behavioural Studies of Hippocampus in Male Wistar Rat Exposed to Doxylamine

Abstract
Doxylamine is a first-generation antihistamine that primarily functions by antagonizing histamine receptors (H1 receptors) in the central nervous system (CNS), producing sedative and calming effects. As with other sedative antihistamines, doxylamine is known to cross the blood-brain barrier, leading to central nervous system depression. The hippocampus plays a central role in spatial memory, emotional regulation, and learning, all of which are thought to be disrupted under the influence of sedative drugs such as Doxylamine which acts as a histamine antagonist. This study investigates the behavioural effect of prolonged use of doxylamine on the hippocampus.
