Abstract
This study evaluates the in vitro anticoagulant activity of ethanolic leaf extracts of Justicia secunda (commonly known as Blood root) using Prothrombin Time (PT) as a marker for coagulation inhibition. The plant extract yielded 53.4%, indicating a substantial presence of bioactive phytochemicals. Citrated human plasma was treated with varying extract concentrations (0.2 ml, 0.3 ml, and 0.5 ml) and compared to a positive control (3.2% sodium citrate; PT = 100.00 ± 0.73 sec) and a negative control (0.9% normal saline; PT = 12.00 ± 0.57 sec).
